It’s ScuttleButton Time! – 4/1/14

ScuttleButton040114One of the best things about last week’s station visit to North Carolina was learning how many people just love the ScuttleButton contests!  It was so encouraging that I thought I’d put the new puzzle up early this week.

How to Play
ScuttleButton, as you may know, is that weekly waste of time exercise where we post a vertical sequence of campaign buttons. Your job is to take one word (or concept) per button and add ’em up to arrive at a famous name or familiar expression. Guess the correct phrase and you could be the proud winner of the coveted Political Junkie button!

Good luck!

We Miss You! (with a picture of George W. Bush) — Button presumably worn by those who are not happy with President Obama.

Don’t Blame Me/I Voted for Barry — Barry Goldwater may have lost in a landslide in 1964, but his stature grew as dissatisfaction with President Lyndon Johnson increased.

Hawthorne Unit/Passaic County/Republican League/Honoring Sheriff Frank Davenport and All Passaic County Candidates/Asbury Park/Saturday, August 10, 1963 — Local New Jersey GOP campaign button.

So, when you add … forget it.  Who am I kidding.  The key to this whole thing was when I announced that I was putting up the ScuttleButton puzzle a few days early.  And, it just so happened, it went up on … April 1st.  It was an April Fool’s joke.  Yes, I know.  Ha, ha, ha.  Not everyone is going to be amused by this prank.

The only good news out of all this is that some people were NOT fooled.  And one of them, Mike Delaney of Quincy, Mass., is the randomly selected winner.   Mike gets the coveted Political Junkie button.

And I promise never to pull this again.  Until next year.
