With so much tension and acrimony in the battles for the Democratic and Republican presidential nomination, we thought we would go easy on you this week with a delightfully simple ScuttleButton puzzle.
How to Play
ScuttleButton, as you may know, is that weekly waste-of-time exercise where we post a vertical sequence of campaign buttons. Your job is to take one word (or concept) per button and add ’em up to arrive at a famous name or familiar expression. Guess the correct phrase and you could be the proud winner of the coveted Political Junkie button!
Enter your submission using the convenient submission form below, or email your submission to scuttlebutton@krpoliticaljunkie.com. You must include your name and city/state to be eligible.
Show/Hide This Week's ScuttleButton Answer Elect a Neu Lt. Governor — Arthur Neu, an Iowa Republican, first elected in 1972. Sam & Ham — A 1986 Democratic button from Georgia, celebrating Sen. Sam Nunn and touting Hamilton Jordan, who was seeking a Senate seat that year. Rocky S.U.R.E. — For former New York Gov. Nelson R.o.c.k.e.f.e.l.l.e.r., possibly 1966. New York’s Prime Candidate Bob Wagner — Wagner, a former three-term mayor of NYC, was seeking a comeback in 1969. Mary Gojack U.S. Senate-Democrat — A former blackjack dealer who lost to GOP Sen. Paul Laxalt in 1980. So, when you combine Neu + Ham + SURE + Prime + Mary, you kinda get … New Hampshire Primary. A wonderful exercise in democracy and the first-in-the-nation primary, but for the record the last three people elected president all lost the N.H. primary. And the randomly-selected winner is … Kelli Carlson of Woodbury, Minn. Kelli wins the coveted Political Junkie button.
