Republicans filibuster gun laws, Democrats filibuster a vote on the Iran deal. Congress may want to avoid holding votes at all costs, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t vote on this week’s ScuttleButton puzzle. Or at least try to solve it.
How to Play
ScuttleButton, as you may know, is that weekly waste-of-time exercise where we post a vertical sequence of campaign buttons. Your job is to take one word (or concept) per button and add ’em up to arrive at a famous name or familiar expression. Guess the correct phrase and you could be the proud winner of the coveted Political Junkie button!
Enter your submission using the convenient submission form below, or email your submission to firstname.lastname@example.org. You must include your name and city/state to be eligible.
President Eisenhower — A Republican, he was re-elected in 1956.
Cantina Mexican Food — A New York restaurant on the Upper East Side.
Elect Turner to Congress — This may be for Edward Turner, a Maryland Democrat who lost a 1954 congressional bid. Does anyone know for sure?
So, when you combine Eisenhower + Cantina + Turner, you kinda get…
Ike and Tina Turner. The then-married rhythm and blues group from the 1960s and ’70s.
And the randomly-selected winner is … Jim Newman, from St. Charles, Ill.
And what’s a ScuttleButton puzzle without a little Tina Turner?
