Of all the primaries at stake on Tuesday, none was more closely watched than the Republican contest for the Senate in West Virginia. GOP leaders fretted that Don Blankenship, the controversial former coal executive, might win the primary and cost them a possible victory in November against Democratic incumbent Joe Manchin.
