Episode #228: When The Blankenship Hit The Fan

He disavowed both the Iran nuclear deal that Obama put together, as well as the comments his new attorney Rudy Giuliani said on the TV talk shows.  Whatever President Trump is doing he is making news.  Former Wyoming Sen. Alan Simpson is back on the program offering his observations, as well as a poignant thank you to John McCain, who is battling brain cancer.

Of all the primaries at stake on Tuesday, none was more closely watched than the Republican contest for the Senate in West Virginia.  GOP leaders fretted that Don Blankenship, the controversial former coal executive, might win the primary and cost them a possible victory in November against Democratic incumbent Joe Manchin.  Trump even tweeted to Mountain State voters to reject Blankenship, offering this as a warning: “Remember Alabama.”  Brad McElhinny of West Virginia MetroNews explains how the party pressure succeeded in pushing Blankenship to a third-place finish.

And the fall of New York state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, a leading Trump critic, was astonishing in its speed.  Ken Lovett of the New York Daily News explains what happened.
